On paper, Fury has the advantage across the board except for the one statistic that counts the most – their head-to-head record. Usyk won the first bout by a split decision, but many felt that he should have been awarded the win unanimously.
In the 9th round, Usyk popped Fury with a left hook that sent him reeling into the ropes. Fury would have likely fallen to the canvas had the ropes not broken his descent.
For the next several seconds, Fury appeared to be out on his feet while Usyk delivered punishing blows in an effort to put him away. The referee stepped in and issued a standing eight count before the fight continued.
Why The Fight Will Be Different This Time
In hindsight, it appears that Fury was overconfident entering the first bout with Usyk. His demeanor was lackadaisical, a direct contrast to Usyk’s stone-faced seriousness.
Tyson seemed to let up in the later rounds, perhaps believing that he had the fight won on points. His training is now focused on continuing the assault and not letting Usyk off the hook.
His new regimen has not impacted the oddsmakers’ projections, as a Usyk wins via unanimous decision or TKO are the two leading options in the following boxing prop bet.
